Sam Miller is a co-host of the Effectively Wild podcast, along with Ben Lindbergh, and a columnist and feature writer for

During the course of the podcast, he went from being a staff writer at Baseball Prospectus to its editor-in-chief, replacing Ben when he left BP to join Grantland in the summer of 2014.

He and Ben co-authored the 2016 book, The Only Rule Is It Has to Work.

Sam started out covering local education news for the Orange County Register, then began writing about baseball and the Los Angeles Angels. He joined Baseball Prospectus in 2012, and then in 2016. He left EW at the end of the year after episode 1000, and was replaced by Jeff Sullivan of FanGraphs. He returned to EW as a co-host in March 2019 after Jeff left to work for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Sam grew up a San Francisco Giants fan in northern California and currently resides in Long Beach, CA.

Initially, Sam recorded the podcast from inside his Honda Fit, so as not to disturb his family.
