Notes[]
- The Rockies have lost a record 21 straight series, going back to September 2024.
- The Rockies are on pace for just 26 wins. FanGraphs currently projects the Rockies to win 50 games. This comes out to a .388 winning percentage for the rest of the season. Ben thinks this is too high. The Rockies have a -175 run differential at the end of May. No other team is in negative triple digits.
- Listener Jake responded to Meg's question about the fan make-up at Rockies games. Jake got the Rockies "ballpark pass" which grants admission to 78 of the 81 home games for just $200. (The Yankees games are excluded.) Jake says that there is always a large visiting team fan contingent, ranging from 20% for the Pirates to as high as 50% for big teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, and Cubs.
- Orioles fan Calvin Wooden is fulfilling a promise made on Twitter: "If Trevor Rodgers [sic] pitches a shut out I'll get his name tattooed on my ass." Ben notes that Rogers threw 6⅓ scoreless innings, but did not complete the game, so technically it was not a shutout, so he didn't have to do it at all. (Ben also notes that the tweet misspells Rogers' name. He wonders if it will be correct in the tattoo.) This is the third time Wooden promised on Twitter to get a butt tattoo in tribute to a sports figure.
- Ben and Meg wonder whether Trevor Rogers knows about the tattoo and discuss how they would feel if they were to learn that their names were tattooed on a stranger's backside.
- Meg reminds Ben that he was worried that they wouldn't have much to talk about, "We've been talking about a random guy on Twitter's ass for like 20 minutes."
- Patrick Corbin has thrown 48 innings so far, nearly half of the amount boldly predicted by Ben Clemens. Ben Lindbergh wanted to predict that Corbin would lead the Rangers in innings pitched. He is currently fourth, behind Nathan Eovaldi, Tyler Mahle, and Jacob deGrom, all three of whom have injury history.
- Clayton Kershaw, Justin Verlander, and Max Scherzer are all replacement-level with fWAR of 0.0, 0.1, and -0.2 respectively.
- Ben relishes reading the various statements from Yankees players scorning their AL Championship rings because they failed to win the World Series. Ben notes that championship rings are intentionally gaudy.
- Ben, on whether he would wear the ring in public: "I don't wanna give strangers an additional reason to talk to me. I don't want a conversation starter. I want conversation ender, which is ironic given my role on this podcast." Meg: "For the first couple of weeks, you'd be like 'I'm going to the grocery store and I'm wearing my ring.' 'I'm pumping gas and I'm wearing my ring.' 'I'm worried about my ring but I also need to show my ring, and so I'm going to sublimate the anxiety so that I can be like here is my ring', and then you'd put it away after a while because like they are these big honking things, and you wouldn't want to damage it and you'd worry about losing it or getting stolen."
- Meg: "I'm not mature enough for Richard Fitts's name to exist in pro baseball."
